SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ARABIC SCRIPT
Similar in other civilizations, the Arabic script are considered as vessels of holy scriptures. The scribe, who is of the highest aristocrat comprehensively works on the calligraphic craftsmanship. This in turn, increases the value of the script as emblem of wisdom, knowledge, art and spirituality into a visual form. The Arabic script remains as an unparalleled representation of the Arab/Muslim culture, embedding in the minds of the Arab Muslims that the Arabic script should always be conserved that any deformation will be looked upon as desecration.

With the advancement of technology, scripts are being digitalised for the benefit of fast transmission of information. This urgency calls for the need to universalise type - the gap exist in the understanding that standardisation is Latin; colonising other non-Latin scripts.
This workshop aims to provide designers with a proper guideline in designing Arabic type.
